I have a lot of toys.
I stopped early to play with them.
I wont have the most toys when I die.
But I will have spent a lot of time playing with the toys that I have.
And If I see a toy I like I buy it.
But I ask myself, will I have time to play with it.
And when will I have time to play with it.
I have been retired now for 2 years.
And there are not enougb hours in a day.
I can not play with evrything I got in a way I want and as much as I want in any given day.
I doubt I will have time to do and play with all the things I have in the rest of my lifetime.

prologos.
I meant when I was young, I was not aware of the damage alcohol did to me.
Today I am aware that I hurt if I drink alcohol and then run for an hour.
When I was young I did not run for an hour or so. Today, I am in better shape
at 62 then at 22.
And I don't want to abuse my body like I did at 22.
I agree drinking is and was addictive.
I used to go to AA and did not have a drink for 7 years.
Those were 7 very good years.

I think this is a large part of the problem...when faced with the inadequecies of a religious text, those that hold that text as holy always try to "make sense" of it - i.e. rationalize/justify it. The god of the hebrew scriptures was an unmitigated asshole, but the capability of humans to rationalize away the flaws in themselves, their beliefs, and those that they love knows no bounds.
That is your perogative to come to that conclusion.
I hope it serves you well.
I hypothosize God caused the flood and the language disruption at babel.
Becaue he wanted to keep man in his image.
and he wanted them to fill the earth to prove a point to man, not to God.
He did not want them making minotaurs, satyrs, centaurs.
Plus he did not want them to conquer the atom until the earth was populated.

Joe, I do realize it could be a myth,
I am hoping it is not, because my interpretation will have a happy ending,
so I am plaing devils advocate, pun intended.
God probably has a timetable and a way he wants things done.
We can always arm chair quarter back and say how we would do things.
People who like to do that become mormons, latter day saints.
There reward in the next life is to be God of their own world.
Many times throughout my life I have said if I was God
I would not do thngs the way he did them.
But that is not the way it works.
So I try to understand and make sense of the way God does things.
A lot of times it is his way or the highway.
The book of job and ecclesiates give me that message.

I have one other problem.
I cant drink one beer.
If I don't have at least a 6 pack around.
I wont even start.
If I have a 6 or 12 pack iced in the fridge.
I can sometimes only drink 3 or 4.

I don't like the taste of scotch or any whiskey for that matter.
But a ice beer in a frosted mugg
on any afternoon in Florida is Nirvana.
I have been blessed in a way.
I come from a family of alcoholics, Irish, German.
But I cant drink alcohol because I hae a hiateal hernia.
I will throw up within 30 minuts of drinking whiskey.
But I can drink light beer, Coors light, Bush light, Miller light.
i can drink up to 9 of those every so often.

It is pretty obvious he wanted them to scatter and populate the earth.
We must not be reading the same passage...to me it's pretty obvious that he didn't want them to achieve what they'd be able to with a common tounge.
Nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them -> let's confuse their language.
The scattering that this (alledgedly) caused was incedental.
But whatever. It really doesn't matter, because either way the account is demonstrably false on many levels
What he didnt want them to accomplish was stay there and grow.
He wanted them to grow throughout the earth
And in my opinion to show that man can not manage man or the earth.
We have the capacity for free will but without following God we are a failure.
I believe that is the point God is making in the bible.
Also he has given us the free will to come to that conclusion or not.
Only you know what you have put in to it.
If it is all your will, I don't think you will ever reach that conclusion.
That is why those who come to Jesus/God have to come on bended knee.
That is what the whole issue is about sovernty.
Your will or Gods will.

From my experience.
The younger you are the more you can drink without being aware of the consequences.
When I was in my 20's I drank a 6 pack of beer a day.
In my thirtys I slowed down to a 6 pack in 2 days.
In my 40's I was down to 2 beers a day.
In my 50's a six pack on the weekend.
Still holding to a six pack on the weekend in my 60's
I tried to drink everyday when I retired 3 to 6 beers a day.
But I couldnt handle it.
What I mean by I couldnt handle it is I can not process the empty calories out of my system fast enough.
Therefore my Blood pressure, weight, colesterol and blood sugar goes up.
That is a deadly combination leading to any number of dire consequences.
Also my body hurt. I could not play soccer because my knees and legs hurt.
I curtailed my drinking to a 6 pack on the weekend, my wife thinks I am only drinking 3 beers on the weekend,
no meat before dinner, little red meat mostly chicken, fish and vegetables.
And I am running like a banshee.
Playing soccer 4 nights a week. Succussfully defending and keeping up with 20 year olds.
4 90 minute games no breaks.
I realize i drink when I am bored and have nothing to do.
Soccer entertains me, gives me something to do.
On days when the games are rained out, I end up in the beer.
Thankfully it only happens about once every 2 weeks.
I will have a problem when i get to old for soccer.
The oldest person I play with now is 74.
With him as my role model I should have 12 more years
then I might go back to the bottle and die a drunk
unless I find a replacement.
My other passion is music.
But music is played in bars.
If you hang around in a barbershop long enough you get a haircut
and if you live and work in a bar you will drink.
I have already conducted that experiment on myself.
That is my experience
Results may vary.

But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”
8 So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel c —because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
It is pretty obvious he wanted them to scatter and populate the earth.
Now that the earth is much more populated people can communicate with one another through computers and the mass media.
But God got the earth populated.
He has made a good point that people can not do the job on their own.
Man can not successful manage the earth and animals.
God has shown that in spades.
No one will be able to dispute mans missmanagement of the earth and its
resources.
God gave man free will.
And we have shown ourselves that free will leads to greeed and greed leads to mismanagement.
I always got the message from the Garden of Eden that man can not run his life or the world without
us following God.
Satan, Adam and Eve did not want to follow God.
Genetically us being decended from Adam and Eve do not want to follow God either.
Maybe at the time of our judgment we will get to reflect on mans rule of the earth and
decide if we want to subject ourselves to God or not.
Those that don't will go without God.
If God is a myth and we are on our own we should learn from the best run countries in the world.
